Michigan Senator Wants Random Drug Testing For Elected Officials

Democratic Senator Bert Johnson is my hero, he said if Michigan wants to test welfare recipients for drug and alcohol abuse, it should do the same for elected officials. Under the assumption that the state holds its legislators to the same standards as its citizens, the request likely won’t make it to state legislature, but it is worth addressing.

There are Republicans who believe that people who are on state assistance should be drug tested, randomly and otherwise. If that’s the case, I think all of us, myself included, who receive public money as elected officials, appointees and otherwise, should have to submit to random drug testing.

Drug testing for welfare is just an attack on low-income individuals, I continue to hope drug testing extends past the low income populations and to to all tax-paid individuals including elected officials and companies CEOs that receive corporate welfare.
